Sports Premium Funding

Since September 2013, the government has provided additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This Sports Premium Funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and sport – is allocated to primary school Headteachers and is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

At Prior's Mill  PE/Sports remains a priority and the Sports Premium Funding link below outlines the provision we have in place both during and after the school day.

Our aim is to maintain the quality and quantity of sports and after-school clubs, inter and intra school competitions, as well as to raise opportunities for pupils to try different activities whilst raising participation numbers. Furthermore, through sports and physical activity we aim to develop a greater awareness about dangers such as obesity, smoking and other such activities that can have a detrimental impact upon pupil health and wellbeing.

Along with our teachers and sport specialists, who lead Games sessions, team practices and after school clubs, we are working together to give the children a solid grounding in sport, whilst also raising their understanding of the vital place of physical activity within a healthy life style.

The Sports Premium Funding Allocation will be used to develop pupils' lifestyles and physical well-being. Our sports opportunities are inclusive and open to all pupils.

At Prior's Mill we firmly believe that all children and young people in our care (aged 4 – 11) should experience regular high quality Physical Education (PE). The medical evidence is too strong to not have PE as a compulsory subject in the curriculum. At Prior's Mill, we provide the broad and balanced programme of physical education your child is entitled to; activities are designed to be enjoyable, vigorous, purposeful and regular and through providing positive experiences, a lifelong interest in physical activity is encouraged.

The range of physical activities at Prior's Mill is wide and includes athletics, dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor education. A high quality programme is designed to satisfy the needs, abilities and interests of all individual children. There will be some children who prefer individual activities to competitive team games and others who enjoy aesthetic movement.

Children are given many opportunities to develop their interests through a planned PE programme that aims to develop knowledge, understanding, skills and above all, a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity.

Within the broad philosophy that taking part is more important than winning, individual talents and sporting attitudes are encouraged, together with those social and personal qualities inherent in both team and individual activities. These include the acceptance of responsibility, loyalty and cooperation, determination, tolerance and the enjoyment of success as well as simply taking part.
